RADIO FREQUENCY IDENTIFICATION DEVICE SMART COVER

Problem:

As part of network wide improvements to Melbourne railways, all trains and trams are now fitted with Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) tags to electronically identify, track, stabalise and streamline maintenance. Conventional ductile iron / concrete infill covers are not transparent to radio waves and are too heavy to lift for maintenance activities. RFID antenna’s need to be safely housed in In-road pits, instead of requiring costly trenching, cabling and external transmitters for Radio Transmission Units (RTU).

Solution:

Terra Firma Industries have developed access covers that are transparent to radio frequencies which enables signal transmission to and from pits. We also offer gas-tight and water-tight lids. If one of our many Terra Firma Railway pit lid solutions doesn’t meet your needs we’ll be happy to talk about designing a product specifically for you.
