Terra Firma Poetry Competition – Winner

My Pit Lids – with apologies to Dorothea Mackellar

I love a grass green pit lid
Surface of waves and rain
Just sitting in the footpath
And covering a drain

I love her strength and lightness
The easiness of lift
It’s better than a gatic
Which is bloody hard to shift

Give up your cracked old concrete
Your slippery useless plate
If you’re trying to lift a gatic
Let Arnie move that weight

Just stick with TERRA FIRMA
They’re definitely the best
Forget the useless heavies
They just don’t pass the test
